By: jessica thomtion

Everybody is born with milky white teeth. But, later on, the teeth tend to get stained because of various reasons which include ageing, food habits and many other factors.
Dazzling teeth play a very important role in development of one's personality. It is the smile of the person that would be noticed by anybody who is meeting him or her for the first time. A white, bright smile looks very beautiful and makes a person quite confident in dealing with other people. Therefore, everybody would like to regain the milky whiteness of the teeth, whether men or women. There are a number of teeth whitening treatments available in the market to meet this demand. These treatments are available to suit every budget, time frame and temperament.
One good thing about this treatment is that the procedure almost always gives result. The people who undergo this treatment would be experiencing a substantial improvement in the brightness and whiteness of their smile. But, one point should be made very clear that the result will not be permanent and regular maintenance would be required to maintain the whiteness of teeth.
The tooth loses its intrinsic whiteness as a person ages. The tooth first starts becoming yellow and later turns brown in color with age. Regular consumption of red wine, coffee, tea, cola, carrots, oranges and other deeply-colored beverages and foods causes considerable staining of teeth over a number of years.
By undergoing Teeth Whitening treatment, the whiteness of teeth could be restored to a large extent. The treatment is quite safe if it is undertaken as per the direction of a trained dentist. However, there are certain risks involved with the procedure. They are:
Sensitivity
Bleaching could cause a temporary increase in sensitivity to temperature, pressure and touch.
Gum Irritation
About fifty per cent people who use peroxide whiteners experience some degree of gum irritation because of the bleach concentration or because of the contact with whitening tray.

Technicolor Teeth
When teeth have been restored earlier by bonding or using dental crowns or porcelain veneers, then they will not be affected by bleach and would continue to retain its old color.
However, their occurrence is not very common and everybody could safely take the benefit of teeth whitening procedure for regaining the white smile. But, to maintain the smile, the dentist would recommend:
1 At-home follow-up or maintenance whitening.
2 Avoiding dark-colored foods and beverages for at least one week after the whitening procedure.
3 Trying to drink dark-colored beverages with a straw, wherever possible.
4 Practicing excellent oral hygiene.
