A Guide to Exhibition Venues in Australia

By: Catherine Gliddon

Australia has always attracted people for various reasons be it for adventure exploration, its natural scenic beauty and wildlife or as a cultural hotspot with its indigenous aborigine people. It has also become a target market for many businesses overseas, and as a result, the exhibition facilities have improved in recent years. Many of these venues have state-of-the-art facilities and can accommodate large International exhibitions. A few of the many centres that are available in Australia are detailed below.

The colossal Sydney Showground which is quite well located in Sydney is one location for a number of exhibitions in Sydney. The facilities are spread over a whopping 30 hectares and the facilities include more than 20 different exhibition centres. All kinds of exhibitions and conferences can be held with ease, from International exhibitions and product launches, to film shoots and sporting matches. The venue provides staff to ensure that all the arrangements are made and to enable functions to run smoothly. There are excellent catering facilities, and access to the venues is very easy because of its central location. There is also parking for a staggering 10,000 vehicles. The Sydney Showground is in the Sydney Olympic Park.

The Australian Jockey Club is a convention centre that has 14 centres that are flexible enough to transform to the specifications of the event. The centres can host any kind of function right from the usual conferences to outdoor corporate family days. One of the Convention Centre's specialties is the Randwick Pavilion, a magnificent pillar-less venue with the latest in sound technology. It can accommodate up to 2,500 with ease in its 1700 square metre area. The Pavilion is set in lush green lawns and beautiful landscaping. The AJC Convention Centre has parking facilities for up to 8,000 cars as well.

The IDC Conference Centre is perhaps one of the best conference centres in Newcastle. The centre is especially designed to host business function, and accordingly has the appropriate facilities. The IDC Conference Centre adheres to the principle of innovation, and with that mandate, the centre constantly delivers new packages for corporates. It has earned the status of being the 'Meeting place for Business' in Newcastle, with a steady influx of visitors, the number increasing annually.

The Cairns Convention Centre is a customized venue especially made for international meetings, exhibitions, banquets and conventions. The facilities are so flexible that the venues can be rearranged to suit a guest list anywhere from 200 to 5000 attendees. The centre has also received recognition from the North American Meeting Planners in the annual USA 'Beyond Borders Survey'; it was voted 'one of the world's top ten international convention centres'.
