A Guide to the BBC Gardeners’ World Live Exhibition at the NEC

By: Catherine Gliddon

BBC Gardeners' World Live 2008 is currently in its 16th year. Set to run alongside the BBC Summer Festival and BBC Good Food Summer, it will begin on Wednesday, 11 June 2008 and will end on Sunday, 15 June 2008. Gardening lovers can expect to see more of the show gardens, floral displays, demonstrations and tips, entertainment, and shopping opportunities that were all available at last year's event.

The Gardeners' World Magazine Celebrity Theatre will be hosted by Adam Pasco and Kevin Smith. They will share the stage with celebrity gardeners such as Alan Titchmarsh, Carol Klein, and Joe Swift, who are ready to offer more of their invaluable advice and insights. Monty Don, who has recently been unwell, is said to have made a full recovery and will also be attending this year's event and offering advice along with the others in the Celebrity Theatre. New faces Rachel de Thame and Toby Buckland and regular magazine contributors James Alexander Sinclair and Anne Swithinbank will also be part of the lineup. Due to the popularity of the event, visitors are advised to book early to avoid any last minute disappointment.

The exhibition also features a Grow Your Own area, where expert gardeners provide demonstrations and advice on the intricacies of growing and using fruit, vegetables, and herbs. The Sustainable Future Feature offers advice on how to 'go green' and save water in the garden.

If you've been an avid fun of Gardeners' World, which runs every Friday night on BBC 2, you'll notice special features from the series including parts of Monty Don's orchard, an allotment based on Joe Swift's London plot, and a show garden similar to Carol Klein's green gardening project. The show's most popular presenters will be filming a one hour special on the 11th and 12th. This will be aired on Friday, 13 June at 8 pm.

The RHS Floral Marquee will be sponsored by Renault and will feature over 100 nurseries of the highest standard, each one hoping to win a prestigious RHS medal. For a bargain deal, be there at 4.30 pm on Sunday for the big sell-off.

Coolaworld will be helping people 'go green' by accepting old mobile phones and chargers for recycling at several drop-off points around the exhibition venue. The proceeds will all go to environmental charities such as SolarAid and Waterwise.
