A Guide to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

By: Catherine Gliddon

Originally built in 1988, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre finished construction in 1997, making it a landmark for the new age Hong Kong and providing the area with a world class exhibition venue, and one which sits on an artificial island. Below we look in more detail at the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre.

One of the most talked about and impressive features of the HKCEC is the impressive glass curtain style wall which is and overlooks Victoria Harbour on 3 sides and which makes if popular for its unique design. The HKCEC can also be identified by its amazing bird-like roof top, which is one of the worlds largest curved roof structures. As a venue for International and domestic exhibitions, this is certainly a scenic but also sizeable and well organised place for both exhibitors and visitors.

Larger than any in Asia-outside of Japan, the HKCEC boasts 5 exhibition halls, 2 convention halls (seating more than 6000 people), fifty-two meeting rooms, two theatres (seating 1000 people), a multitude of pre-function areas, a business centre, and a car park with enough spaces for 1300 cars. The HKCEC in fact has the capacity to cater for up to 140,000 visitors per day.

The HKCEC was built and designed to host a magnitude of events, exhibitions, conferences, and banquets. Over forty international trade shows and exhibitions are held here each year, in addition to a number of special events including concerts and live broadcasts. The banquet centre (with a column free grand hall) offers quality services and professional planning from their own in-house food & beverage team, thus making it the perfect place to host a gala dinner, wedding, reception, or any special celebration. For exhibitions, the venue is also to cater to the needs of exhibitors with facilities in place to provide video conferencing, audio visual equipment and satellite links.

Recently named “Best Convention & Exhibition Centre in Asia Pacific”, the HKCEC is certainly unique in design, offers breath-taking views, can provide excellent and high quality food, and provides a number of business amenities. You can get to the HKCEC by cab or The Star Ferry transport, which runs 2 routes: The venue also has links to the metro stations and Hong Kong International airport is within a taxi ride from the exhibition venue and a number of flights fly into Hong Kong, from destination worldwide, on a daily basis.
