People have a tendency to hide information about their past for different reasons. We respect that since everyone is entitled to hold to their own privacy. But we can’t run away from the fact that there are certain circumstances that one’s history should be brought up.

We must be thankful that safety measures are now conducted like background check. In hiring someone or accepting someone in the company means that person will be part of your daily routine. Because of that, it should be time for you to do background check.

Let us take a sample article that tackles how they value safety especially for the children. Entitled “Playing It Safe “by David Staal, a ministry of Promiseland, the Willow Creek Community Church (South Barrington, Illinois) children’s Ministry.

For over 3,000 kids and 1,000 children’s volunteer, Staal made it a point that everything is organized and that they prioritize the kids’ safety. He assesses from time to time the safety of each area. One way to promote safety to Promiseland is to have clearly defined positions for volunteers. According to Staal, the volunteer staff is the only thing between the kids and possible danger. This makes the selection and screening process tight for ministry safety purposes.

Anyone who is going to serve the Promiseland is required to fill up the application form. Information about their past will also be asked though there is an assurance that everything discussed will remain confidential. A potential candidate will undergo a background check where the person’s history is revealed. If the person passes, he or she will then be set for interview, then a ministry reference check and a personal reference check. Staal indicated that Promiseland is a place for kids, “You have to bat one thousand on safety thousand, and it takes radical commitment”.

There is a background check designed for churches and ministries. It is important to check one’s records that will allow you to know the person’s history. This will help you to decide who to hire and at the same time, that will secure the place as well as the members of the church.
