By: Yacko

So after all, what is a bluff?

When you're sure that the hand is not the best hand after the showdown - and has no value before the showdown, and you bet. This is a bluff.

When should you bluff?

When you think that the chance of making your opponents fold is greater then the pot odds offer, then you should bluff.
Just remember not to consistently bluff, Make sure to get caught so it can vary your game play.

Important things to consider before bluffing.

1. Know your opponents
What is their player character? What is your image at the table? Have any of your opponents been 'bluffed' lately.

2. Read poker tells.
Check for psychological signs/abnormalities from your opponents.

3. Pay attention to the size of the pot.
If there is a really big pot, and your opponents are in there going for it, Your chances are slim.

4. Pay attention to the board.

5. Look to see if your opponent is stacked.
If one of your opponents is short stacked compared to the pot size, he will probably call your bluff. However If you have a marginal hand such as such as an 8 and a 7, and you believe that the low stacked opponent is weaker than you, bluffing could be a smart move.

6. Your Image.
Sometimes if you want to make it harder for your opponents to read your game later on, its a smart move to bluff even if the pot odds don't justify it. On the other hand its a smart move not to bluff, even when the pot odds do justify it. Bluff only when the pot odds are big enough and, due to your tight image, you think nobody will call.

7. How many opponents are still in the game?
As the number of opponents rises, your chances of taking the pot decrease.
