Dell inspiron 531 - Buying A Computer

By: Adolph K. Reekie

Processors
For the Inspiron 531, Dell uses AMD® processors that include AMD® AthlonTM 64 X2 chips. These greatly improve a computer’s performance by using dual core technology that allows you to run different tasks at the same time without slowing your system. You could, for instance, create a DVD while scanning your system for viruses. Electronic multi-tasking has arrived!
Windows Media Center
The standard operating system for the Inspiron 531 is Windows Vista® Home Premium. The advantage of this for entertainment is that it Features Windows Media Center to help you get the most from audio, video and TV. Simply attach a camcorder or digital camera and with the appropriate software, you have a film and photographic studio in your home. To complete the setup and watch, record and rewind television programmes, just add a digital TV tuner.
It’s also worth noting that Windows Vista® Home Premium has new parental controls so that you decide what your children can see and do.
Visuals
The computer’s video card determines the quality of your visual experience. For the Inspiron 531, Dell has installed the NVIDIA® GeForce® 8300GS Turbocache. This allows you to watch films and games that are sharply defined and flicker-free.
Monitors
Good graphics cards require good monitors. Dell delivers these with its 19” Silver Wide Flat Panel and its 22” Black Wide Flat Panel. These are smart-looking units that provide crisp definition.
Audio
Sound must match the quality of the visuals. The Inspiron 531 has integrated 7.1 channel surround sound HDA (High Definition Audio). To improve this still further and achieve home cinema surround sound, add the optional SoundBlasterTM XFiTM XtremeMusic card.
Upgrades
The XtremeMusic card is just one of the available upgrades for the Inspiron 531. With four external slots, four external bays and eight USB 2.0 ports, you can add extra hard drive and memory capacity as well as improved graphics and optical drives.
Protecting data
But whether or not you upgrade, you need to consider the danger of losing text and images if software or hardware fails. To counteract this possibility, Dell offers DataSafe Local and DataSafe Online. DataSafe Local backs up your data on a second hard drive in the computer; DataSafe Online backs it up at a remote storage site.
With data storage securely settled, you can then enjoy your Inspiron 531 entertainment system to the full.
