Going Green: SellMyOldCellPhone.com Dumps Paper Waste

By: elite4

The web based company, Sell My Old Cell Phone, has taken steps to become “GREEN”. In an effort to significantly reduce paper waste, the company has utilized internet technology. Spokeswomen, Marlene Thompson, stated Monday June 16th that, “Tons of paper had been utilized, over the years, in efforts to retrieve cell phones from patrons wishing to sell theirs. The outdated method was to send patrons a box, inside an envelope with pre-paid postage on it along with detailed instructions on how to use the service. “ Ms. Thompson continued by saying, “We now utilize the internet and email pre-paid postage that the patron can affix to their own small box along with detailed instructions on how to use the service.”It is well known that millions of cell phones end up in garbage dumps across America, polluting the ground they end up in. Ms. Thompson stated that it just does not make sense to save the environment in one area (by recycling cell phones) and in doing so destroys it in another (massive paper waste). Now instead of getting a box to send a cell phone in, a patron can utilize their own small boxes they may have lying around, potentially ending up in a dump somewhere as well. Additionally, the boxes that cell phones come in are picked up by a well known nation wide recycler, Waste Management. The boxes are not recycled into additional paper products but converted to fuel at one of their nearby facilities. It is estimated that the company will save approximately 900 to 1200 pounds of boxes and another 500-600 pounds of additional paper that went along with each box, per year. Now when patrons wish to sell their cell phones, they go to Sell My Old Cell Phone and submit their order to sell their phone. Within minutes to a couple hours, an email will arrive that contains a printable postage label that they can affix to their small box along with an email explaining how it works. Not only are they saving trees, they have cut down the amount of time it takes to get a cell phone into processing. The company is looking at other ways to help the environment instead of exploiting it and efforts to reduce processing time as well. Spokeswomen Thompson said, “It is the business of every business to try and find ways to conserve and preserve the environment. Small steps by many companies add up to one giant journey for our nation and it’s environment.”Do the right thing for the environment. Don’t throw your old cell phones away, but rather recycle them. You can convert used cell phones into cash. Also, if you are going to convert them, use a company that is GREEN friendly.
