How To Write Killer Pay Per Click Ads

By: Jeremiah Baker

The reason you're reading this article is probably because you want better click through ratios for your AdWords ads right? You know that if you have a higher click through ratio in Google AdWords you can get higher ad positions without increasing your cost per click. This article is going to walk through a great strategy for writing better ads.

The goal of your ad is to promote or pre-sell something on your website. It is not the place to talk about how long you've been in business or how great you are.

1.) Do you want to generate sales leads for your business by offering something for free on your website in exchange for your visitor's contact information? If you said yes then you better clearly promote your free giveaway in your ad copy if you want the best results.

2.) Do you run an ecommerce website selling products online? If you said yes then your ad copy should be specific to the benefits of the product(s) you're selling. Remember your ad copy is your salesperson in print.

Next, I'm going to show you the fastest way to get ideas for writing your ads. Write down your main goal on a piece of paper (generate a sales lead or promote your product(s) for sale).

Write down a keyword or key phrase that is important to your product or service.

Now go to Google.com. Enter your keyword into the search box and hit the search button. See the ads on the top and right hand side of the page? Look at these ads. Are any of the ads promoting a similar offering to what you're offering? If so jot down the ads you see and like.

In this step we're going to have Google show us which ads are performing the best. You'll see which ads have good Click Through Ratio's already.

Let's go back to Google again and type in your keyword with what is called a wild card after it. It should look like this (your keyword 7uyr5). "Take out the ( ) when you do your search. This strategy will show you the ads that are already getting a decent CTR in Google. It works because obviously nobody searching with (7uyr5) after your keyword. Google's goal is to show the searcher ads that are most relevant to the keyword that was searched on. Since nobody actually searches with 7uyr5 after your keyword Google will display ads that have historically performed well for your keyword.

After you do this search technique jot down which ads match what you're promoting best. Can you see a common theme? This should give you some ideas for writing your own ad(s). I suggest that don't copy word for word, but just use these ads for ideas for your own ads.

This technique is extremely powerful. Please do not underestimate it! I use this technique every time I setup my own AdWords campaigns.

I hope that this information has proved useful to you. I'm sure that you'll discover some great ad copy ideas for your own campaigns.

Conclusion: Remember the main goal of your ad is to get the searcher to click on it. Clearly promote the benefits of your offer in your ad copy, think of your ad copy as your salesperson.
