How much does it cost to build a website?

Costs for building a website vary greatly because it really depends on what capabilities you want your site to have. You need to know how you want it to look in terms of design and how much information you want it to provide. I’ll give you some examples of a couple of different sites. If you go to PowerPromoter.com, I think that cost me approximately $150-$250 to get done. I hired somebody off of Elance based on their bid, feedback and reviews. Now, to get that done for that amount of money, I thought was quite reasonable. However, I did provide them with all the content which also cost time and money. Of course, the more you can do yourself the less money you’ll have to shell out, but if you are extremely busy you won’t really have a choice.
One of the ways to get your websites developed at a reasonable price is to do exactly what I did. That is, you come up with the content and let the person you hire come up with the graphics and the design. So, when you give them the writeup say, “Okay, on the home page please add this content and then on the next page add this document. Then I also want an About Us page and here’s all the information I want you to put on the About Us page. For the Contact Us page, please copy and paste everything in the contactus.txt file. Also, on the navigation bar, please provide links to all my pages….etc. “
So basically, if you pre-write everything you require, you can get it done pretty reasonably because you take any guesswork out of the equation and there will be less back and forth communication as to how you want things displayed.
Another site I had created called Frontier Marketing International, I know for a fact was $125 to get it done. For a regular website, like a branding site or a site that brands, I don’t think I’ve really ever paid over $500 unless I asked them to include some copy.
Once again the more information you can provide and the more clearly you can lay it all out and structure it, the easier it will be for your to have it completed and the less it is going to cost you.
