How reasonable is the DJ?

If you requirement is a truly top professional, you will have to necessarily spend time to investigate a company and their DJ's. Some companies allow you to pick the exact DJ to suit your particular needs and some companies pick the DJ for you based on your needs and type of event. If you pick your exact DJ and see the performance, you can be assured of the quality you will get. But if a company picks the DJ for you, then you need to be very careful to check into the experience and antecedents of the person that is choosing the DJ for you. One way to determine if one company is better than another is to ask for a list of their DJ's and how much experience they have, and how long have they been with that company.

If you spot a company that is not able to tell you how many DJ's they have or their levels of individual experience, then it is prudent to avoid those companies. Those types of companies in all probability will not be able to provide you the right type of DJ to meet your requirements. The reputed and well-established companies will readily furnish you the types of DJs they have, their individual music styles, and then they will within seconds tell you which of their DJ's will fulfill your needs.

It is always preferable to see a performance of the DJ service to know first-hand the quality of the DJ's at that company. Many have video demos and on-line video demos for you to preview their performance and judge their quality. During the preview by video, watch how the DJ interacts and how clearly the DJ talks. Most of the companies may not allow live previews at an event as it is indecorous to send clients to interrupt another client’s event. With the Internet it is very easy to see a preview of the DJ online video.

It sometimes happens that the client sees the DJ on video before hiring them and subsequently feels disappointed with the choice. It could very well be that the company showed a very good DJ on video but did not guarantee that specific DJ for the event. These are very critical things to watch out for lest you get cheated. Even if you are unable to see a DJ performance before you book him, at least meet and talk to the exact DJ that you are looking to hire for your event.

Even if any of your friends says the DJ he or she saw was great, it may not be the type of DJ that will fit into your requirements. Check at least 5-10 references on the DJ you are looking to hire. Any reputed DJ service will have plenty of reference letters on hand to show you the quality of work they have done. If they are unable to furnish references, reject them straightaway. Ask the company for references strictly pertaining to the DJ that you are looking to hire and make sure you ask for references on the most recent 6 events they have done.

Engaging the right entertainer is critically important for the successful outcome of your event. Some people view DJ as a commodity and choose the cheapest one they can find. Please bear in mind that there are numerous instances of DJ companies that lure customers with low prices only to provide an inexperienced disc jockey with poor people skills, an inferior music library and shoddy equipment.
