How to Determine if a MLB Memorabilia Is Not Forged

If you ever thought about buying one of those famed autographed baseballs from CY Young or Chief Bender, make sure that the autographs are genuine enough. In order to understand the nature of authentic autographed baseballs, we need to understand the methods used to assure the legalities of such autographs.

Nowadays, dealers make sure to utilize the witness authentication policy. A witness makes sure that the autographs are signed by a baseball player and then lodge their witness account into an official database registry governed by no other than the MLB officials themselves. For the items that are used in any of the sports game, these witnesses makes sure that the retailer puts an individually marked hologram containing a unique reference number. The reference number can be traced to that particular item by contacting the supplier or any MLB official. The hologram itself is unique and very difficult to forge. Such is the widespread use of the fake autographed baseballs that one of the black-market dealers joked in a hidden audio recording by the FBI that Micky Mantle still has one hand out of the grave.

Such cases prove that there are many people who are willing to believe just anything. Now it doesn’t mean that every other item is a fake. Many of the reputable retailers have in their inventory, genuinely signed baseballs from most of the MLB Players. These retailers don’t run after the players to sign it but instead use their contacts with companies that exclusively contract baseball players to sign one of the items. Sports celebrities are paid $100 to $150 for each signing. The sellers of such autographed baseballs also bid in major auctions to find the vintage memorabilia. Any signs in vintage item will attract a very high price. Beware! If you come across a game used vintage item that is selling at an average price.
