Inability to access the CD or DVD drive

By: jonny defh

Your computer had been working just fine but the sudden helplessness that has set in due to the inability to access the CD or DVD drive has put you off. As far as you remotely remember, you had done everything right starting from a proper shut down of the system to checking its drivers not to forget installing the best anti-virus software too. Then what went wrong?
Immediately after having removed a program from the computer, have you started encountering this problem? You are no longer being able to access the CD or the DVD drive using My Computer and to top it off you have an error message flashing across the screen that reads thus: "error code 31". All you can remember is having removed a CD recording program or a DVD recording program in your Windows XP.
Thank God! You are not the only person who has ever suffered a similar fate, there have been loads of people before you who have complained about a similar error. This is a typical behavior that gets replicated when you try to vew the CD drive or the DVD drive in the Device Manager. In this case the errors that you are likely to confront are as follows:
1. The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).
2. A driver for this device was not required, and has been disabled (Code 32 or Code 31).
3. Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)
4. "error code 39" error message.
You are likely to find this in the notification area:-
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
There is no troubleshooting available if your registry is corrupted. The only way to work around this is by modifying the registry which is in itself a risky ordeal because one discrepancy caused while implementing this task can cost you a lifetime worth of data.
These error messages are all case in pointers to the fact that your registry needs modification leaving you with no other option but to attempt this task. If you are a beginner and not too sure, don’t attempt it because it will wreak more damage than you can ever imagine. Get a veteran to help you out if need because one wrong step in handling the registry editor can lead you to reinstall the operating system deleting all the important data if it has been stored in the primary partition along with the Operating system.
Under the given circumstances the above faults can only be tended to if the Upper Filters and the Lower Filters registry entries are removed through effective registry modification. It is advisable to uninstall all CD recording or CD writing programs before embarking on the task. These can be reinstalled after the resolution has come by. Once this is successfully carried out, restart the computer and you can be rest assured that your problem would vanish into thin air but if you have messed up in between and lamenting over your hastiness and the ensuing fault it has caused, Stellar Information Systems Ltd shows you a ray of hope.
Stellar Information Systems Ltd, a pioneer Data Recovery company has come up with comprehensive software that is a one-step solution for data recovery from Windows whatever might be the data loss situation that has wrought the havoc.
