Lenovo Y510 and Y710 Face Recognition Laptops

Lenovo Y510 laptops are focused at both entertainment and general-use users, but have some very interesting unique features such as VeriFace facial recognition and a frameless screen. Lenovo Y510 frameless screen and a larger separation between the keys and the screen so the display doesn't get in the way as much. Its also have touch-sensitive controls at the top, which are designed more for multi-media functions than for no-look typing.

Y510 powered by Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor (1, 83 GHz) and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. It has data storage with a size of 250 GB (5.400 rpm), 2GB RAM (can be improved to 4GB), and a DVD writer.
For the connection, this laptop applies Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG or 4965AGN Wi-Fi module, an Ethernet LAN, and 56 Kbps modem. It also supports three USB port, an addition Express Card memory card slot, 6-1 media card reader, FireWire port, and VGA and S-Video output.

The Y510 has plenty of performance for a full range of multimedia entertainment needs thanks to the range of Core 2 Duo processors that are available. Even the entry-level 1.6GHz T2330 packs enough punch for most average consumers who need a general use laptop. The integrated Intel X3100 graphics provide enough graphics horsepower for video playback needs, but this system is only capable of playing games with very basic minimum requirements.

Lenovo is the VeriFace recognition technology, which uses the integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam to scan your face for a secure logon – if an unauthorized person attempts to log on; VeriFace records their picture and stores it in a log. Other features include a frameless screen -- something easier seen than explained -- and a "Light Weave" shell that gives the exterior a textured feel. It's refreshing to see Lenovo try to differentiate itself as it enters the already-crowded 15.4-inch consumer notebook market.

This laptop incorporates the Dolby Home Theater sound system with four speakers and a sub-woofer, as well as a built-in 1.3 megapixel web camera which provides face recognition functionality when used with special software called VeriFace. Regarding communications, there are the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG or 4965AGN Wi-Fi module, an Ethernet LAN port, and a 56K modem. The Y510 sports three USB ports, an Express Card slot, a FireWire port, VGA and S-Video outputs, and 6-in-1 media card reader.Design novelties in the new notebook include a frameless screen panel, the Light Weave Texture, and touch-sensitive multimedia controls. The system weighs 6.4 pounds and provides approximately four hours of battery life with a standard 6-cell battery.
