Low Cost Marketing: How to attract qualified traffic with Blogs

By: Sean Flynn

Blogs and forums are among other things one of the most inexpensive ways to promote yourself and your internet business online. But often times, many people take this idea of posting on blogs and forums above and beyond its meaning and purpose. What do I mean by this? Well, there are those out there that will search for any forum or blog, make a thoughtless one liner and place a huge signature line selling their business. This is a BIG faux pas! This is what many would call spamming—not contributing to the relevancy and the enrichment of a discussion. You do this, and it will result in your posts be erased or even worse, kicked off the forum entirely. How embarrassing right? I would be embarrassed. It’s not that forums do not like you posting your business links and what not’s on their discussion boards, it’s the fact that you don’t have anything relevant to say that can be of use to anyone.
Which leads me to my first rule: When marketing via blogs and forums, make sure you have something relevant to say on the particular subject. This will establish your cred among your peers on the forum.
Rule #2: Search the web and find forum topics that are closely related to your business. You can post on unrelated topics in discussion boards but I would caution you: the point of this is to attract qualified traffic to your website. Posting your comments on a dating forum will do you little good in driving good qualified traffic to your site.
Rule #3: Your Signature or as I like to call it your Sig. Try to keep it short; brief and less obvious to the fact you are trying to attract people.
Wrong Sig: Hey, do you wanna know how to I turned $25 into $100 in 10minutes. Click here to find out.
If you do that YOU SUUCCKK!!!!!!!
Better Sig: Be blessed with more than enough so you can bless others? www.yourwebsitehere.com
Now, I know some of you may want to take that and use it as your own—or not. Whatever, it’s pretty generic but you get the point—I hope? The goal in your sig is to make less obvious and that whets the reader’s curiosity.
Rule #4 Try and pick out a few good discussion boards that have rich discussion topics in which you can contribute to—and that is in your realm of expertise. Sign-up and begin to participating! This can actually be very stimulating aspect of promoting your business online for you. Why? Discussion boards can be stimulating because you are interacting with people from all over with different perspectives who share your interests. Take the opportunity to take advice—not just dish it out.
One tell tale sign of a wasted forum is when you see nearly every topic people pitching there business to one another—talk about white noise. Everyone is pitching and no one is listening.
I provided you the fundamentals of blog/forum marketing—there are more tips out there but you know I can’t give you all my secrets. But I do sincerely hope this helps. Now young grasshoppers—stop reading and start marketing!
