Make Money Copywriting: Your Copywriting Business's Services

By: Angela Booth

Copywriting is an easy way to earn income as a freelance writer because all businesses need copywriters. But what services will you offer?

The services you can offer include writing many different forms of copy, depending on your clients' needs. Because your copy will directly impact your clients' cash flow, you can charge highly for your services.

Here's a list of four different types of copywriting services which you can offer your clients. Choose those which appeal to you:

1. Promotional copy - advertising

Advertising copy is advertising text in all its forms - both online and offline.

So what kinds of advertising could you write? You can write everything from tiny classified ads to 100-page product manuals. If you have a flair for performance writing, consider offering radio and televisions scripts.

2. Direct sales copy - someone has to write junk mail, it might as well be you

Direct response means exactly what it says: your words - in a sales letter, whether online or offline - will sell a product or service. Your words must sell. This is specialized copywriting, and highly lucrative, so many copywriters specialize in direct response.

A direct marketing sales package will include the sales letter, as well as other copy for the mailers, and often follow up letters too. Many copywriters, when creating direct sales packages, prefer to accept a royalty on the total sales made by the package.

3. Internet copy - for Web sites and advertising

As more businesses develop Web sites, copywriters are needed to write many different types of Web pages. Some of these pages are promotional, others are informative. Many experienced copywriters are specializing in Internet copy, because of the on-going work which company Web sites offer.

4. Public Relations copywriting: you're a spin doctor

There's much more to Publication Relations (PR) copywriting than press releases. A PR campaign may involve writing a series of press releases, along with company backgrounders and bios of the company principals.

Many PR copywriters are specializing in Web promotion, writing press releases and other promotional material for companies. Again, these PR copywriters are usually on retainer, under a yearly contracts.

So there you have four broad areas in which you can offer your copywriting services, and build a large and lucrative copywriting practice.
