The Internet has become more than just a tool for doing business and research. From its humble beginnings, it has now transformed into a multimedia powerhouse. This means that more and more people are turning to the Internet for recreation, which includes listening to music, watching videos, reading up on news, and catching up on missed episodes of your favorite TV series. While it can be said that downloading music online remains to be one of the most popular Internet activities, advancement in technology has paved the way to increase the number of things to do online. Aside from being able to watch some smutty videos, you can now watch TV shows online. That may be stating the obvious, but the question that comes to mind is why watch TV series online when a regular flat screen TV is readily accessible in the living room or bedroom? It’s enough to boggle the mind, but the easiest answer is that it’s really a matter of preference. But then again, there must be a reason to have such preference.

The traditional way of getting cheap entertainment is watching TV at home. If you have cable, you can watch any type of show you want be it news, soap operas, cartoons, or TV series. What’s great about this is that you can surf channels until your fingers bled and it would still be an enjoyable activity. Improvements in TV technology has made watching even more engaging, thanks to high-definition television (HDTV). This has boosted TV viewership because of the higher resolution. And since people are obsessed with size, HDTV has made it possible to have gigantic screens without losing resolution. While the technology has substantially improved, there will always be a time when you will miss watching your favorite show. It’s likely that you have that little contraption that records shows while you are away, but it is a not standard feature of TVs. Hence, not everyone will have the opportunity to catch up on the shows they have missed. It is for this reason that people started watch episodes online.

If you are accustomed to using the TV for watching movies and TV shows, you might find it a little strange to watch TV series online because the process is a little bit different, in that you have to choose and download from a list before you can watch. It’s a far cry from just pressing the remote controller. Also, in some cases, you need to be a member of the site to watch the shows. These are just minor irritations of an otherwise pleasurable viewing. The bigger problem is the speed of your connection. Your viewing experience might be curtailed by a lousy Internet connection. You also need to take into account the capability of your computer to handle the process. If you have secured a top- of-the-line PC and have high-speed broadband connection, then you should not have to deal with slow loadings.

The main reason for wanting to watch TV shows online is for “catch up” viewing, but the more you do it, the more you become so engrossed that you will find yourself spending more time online.
