Robot Hard Drive

By: Keyes

The company is known as Data Robotics, Incorporated, and they are the makers of Drobo. Drobo is billed as the world's first storage robot, and while it doesn't really fit the description of what most people envision when they think of a robot, it has a flashy structure that will peek your interest. The Drobo carries a $450 price tag (after mail-in-rebate), and it features protected storage, managed storage, easy capacity upgrade, and networking capabilities. It's possible to add up to four hard drives to the Drobo; we're talking about terabytes of possible storage here. They don't all have to be the same types of drives either. You can mix and match brands, speeds, and capacities of hard drives and avoid having multiple external hard drives USB'd to your computer. For those of you who want versatility, not only can you connect a Drobo to your PC, but you can connect it to your Mac without a problem. Forget about managing your hard drives, Drobo is going to do all your drive management for you while you worry about more important things. Now I'm not going to list all the specs. You can check them out at http://www.drobo.com/products_drobo_specifications.html#products_navThere are also plenty of reviews at the site with awards from IT Week and MacWorld. Drobo has also won awards from the 2008 Storage Visions Conference, and it has won an award as one of The 25 Most Innovative Products of the Year. Personally, I'm adding it to my wish list. If you get to try one out before I do, let me know...
