Three Guidelines you need to Know about Postcard Mailing Lists

By: carla r. san gaspar

Postcard mailing is one of the common marketing approaches used to send greetings, notices, updates or new information to people that could potentially end up as clients.

To engage in this, you first need to have a good set of postcards ready for distribution. Technology has made lay-outing and designing relatively quick and easy. Getting them printed is also hassle-free since you can just send your printing jobs to the presses through the internet.

The next step is the one that involves taking a lot of caution. The success of the delivery of your postcards depends largely on the mailing list that you have.

Take a closer look at mailing lists

A mailing list, simply put, is a compilation of names with corresponding addresses that is made for the purpose of sending out mails to many people at the same time. These may all well be patrons, newly acquired clients, prospective clients and referrals too.

Mailing lists are often used in circulation materials such as newsletters and magazines you subscribe to. It is, on one hand, also sourced out from credit report agencies and marketing firms to give enterprising individuals or groups to attract the audience they need.

The advantage of using mailing lists for your marketing is that your entire list can purely contain your target audience. You can adjust it according to your needs, like if you’re a broker looking for addresses of people renting houses and apartments, or if you are a graphic artist looking for company clients.

You may opt to create your list based on certain demographics (e.g., age and gender), on location (e.g., city-dwellers, zip codes), or on specific skills, (e.g., licensed drivers).

It would be great if you have your own list, then you can be sure that it’s accurate and complete. But if you are just starting and you have no idea where to get one, there are a few basic things that you need to know:

1. Identify your target

To make a precise hit on your desired group, study the population sample and zero in on those who are likely to respond to your product or service. This way, you avoid wasting money and irking uninterested people.

2. Look for accurate, low-cost lists

Good things come with a price, especially if they are meant to give you good financial returns. Mailing lists are no exceptions.

You can buy or rent an existing mailing list. The list can be prepared for you and your desired audience or you can create your own and simply click through a list of options.

Search the internet for the best deals that you can find. Get price quotes first so you have an idea before agreeing to a purchase.

If you intend to rent, do know that a contract applies. You are allowed to use it only for a specified period of time. Mailing list owners have a system of determining contract term violations by adding salts or fake addresses. No wrong deed goes unpunished so stick to your agreements.

3. Get them from reliable sources

Get your mailing list only from secure and reliable brokers or data sources. Every wrong or fake address is an added expense that has zero return benefit.

Postcard mailing is a good marketing move but you do have to exercise caution to use it to your maximum advantage. Follow these simple guidelines to avoid undesirable and regrettable situations.
