Hiring someone is a critical decision. To justify or sell a hiring decision to other people within an organization, they often use your resume.

After seeing your resume, some people have the authority rubber stamp or forbid bringing you on board. Since you are a stranger, they will be careful. Employers hate to make hiring mistakes.

The interviewer might think you are great and want to hire you on the spot. But they might still need to sell you to their boss. An effective resume is the best sales tool they could have in their arsenal.
