Why Go at it Alone?

By: karen grahams

Sometimes you don’t have to do everything by yourself.

It can seem like everyone is your competition. When you own a business it isn’t always easy to drop the mentality that you’re racing against everyone else on the marketplace.

The truth is that you can generate a lot more business and interest in your company with a well-organized partnership. But before you even start to look for a potential partner, you need to ask yourself how well you know your customers.

Remember, any worthwhile store exists because the customer base allows it to exist, so any decision you make should be done with your customers in mind. The strongest partnerships are going to be the ones that appeal most to the customer base, so why not take a look at your own?

The first thing to consider is what kind of marketing strategies have worked best with them? When you use something like brochure printing, what images do you use and what language has always gained the most interest?

You might want to go for a more open means of gaining information about your customers. Why not use newsletter printing, and then ask your customers to write in and tell you about themselves. Publish letters by your customers in your newsletter and see what kind of responses they get.

By using newsletter printing like this you can learn a lot more about the people you’re doing business with, and in turn figure out what company would make the best partner.

So now let’s look at the kinds of businesses you should partner with. There are all sorts of different options depending on what it is you hope to gain from the partnership. If you found a certain area you’re weak in, why not try to find a partner that can strengthen it? If you have certain times of years that you do the best sales in, try to find a partner that gets their best figures during another part of the year.

The reason this can work so well is by combining advertising, and even sales specials, to help strengthen both businesses. Use brochure printing to get some business brochures that have discount coupons in them. During your busy season hand those business brochures out to people so they can get a discount at your partner’s store, and then have your partner do the same during their busy season.

Now you can help boost business for both stores during what would normally be your off season.

Set up duel sales that benefit people more if they shop at both stores. You might consider combining mailing lists to reach the largest pool of people possible. There are all sorts of different ways you can strengthen both businesses by joining together.

Just make sure that whatever company you choose to partner with is as strong as you are. Joining with a company that’s doing poorly can bring you down if you aren’t careful.

If you take the time to do your research, learn everything you can about your customers, and join with an established company, you can greatly increase your sales, and improve your standing with your customers.
