Let me begin by asking you how you rate yourself as a guitarist. Do you feel you are just a novice? Maybe you feel that you are much better than most of them out there. The world seems to be infatuated with beginners. There are a huge number of websites loaded with resources for novice guitarists. It includes sheet music, tablature, audio clips, video clips and live help. If you are a beginner guitarist, then this is the best way to hone your skills and learn the basics a tad faster than your instructor can teach you. You can learn to play your first song, your first chord sequence, alternating between chords, tuning your guitar by ear and much more. The best part is that most of this material comes without any strings attached. Yes, they are free. You simply log in to the website and download them. Some websites might require you to sign up with your email id. The membership once again is free. If you need help in mastering chords, or reading sheet music, then the video clips or the printed lessons can help you. I learnt my first few guitar lessons courtesy a popular website that offers 24 free lessons on sign up. If this cannot set your basics right, then probably nothing can.

For Pros

Now this isn’t as easy as you thought earlier. There are very little people who can really be called pro guitarists. Most of them are beginners who are self proclaimed pros. The rest are at a stage that they can neither be called pros nor amateurs. But if you do the hunting, you can definitely find a few people who can give you a run for your money. I recently met a guy on a forum who has been playing the Spanish guitar for 36 years. So, you see, the good part is that there is no dearth of instructional material for expert guitarists as well. Once again, you can choose from sheet music, audio clips or video clips. All of this focuses on advanced techniques that will take years to master for the beginner guitarist. How can you improve your left hand coordination? How do you play the finger style piece made popular by Jason Becker in the song AIR? How do you add tapping to your normal playing routine? How to add to your thumb precision, left hand stretching and harmonize the melody jazz? There is always something more to learn. That’s the beauty of the instrument.
